Welcome to birding in Matabeleland

Matabeleland has a very diverse set of habitats and birds. Much of the area is dry with associated acacia, both scrub and mixed and mopane woodland. Then there is the Rhodes Matopos National Park with its spectacular granite formations and some miombo and mixed woodlands, Hwange National Park with all its fantastic wildlife has teak woodlands, mopane, deciduous woodlands, pans, vlei lines; there are nice stretches of teak between Bulawayo and Hwange. The ruggedness of Chizarira National Park is for the more self-contained adventurer, and Victoria Falls and Kazungula where you can combine birding with all sorts of touristy adventure activities and bird the Zambezi River too. The drier west here shares many species with Botswana and they will only be found here in Zimbabwe.
